SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
We’re looking for an exceptional engineer to lead the design and validation of our first prototype and product. You will be responsible for a dynamic mixture of tasks, ranging from mechanical design to running experiments.

What You’ll Do
-
Support our process development team’s efforts to establish system, subsystem, and critical assembly specifications

Research and develop design concepts to satisfy system, subsystem, and critical assembly process specifications. Perform experimentation as needed in selection of design concepts

Design parts and assemblies in accordance with the process specifications and established design concepts
-
Create CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, bill of materials to support prototyping and testing, and ultimately commercial product design

Perform simulations (FEA, CFD) to virtually test and refine designs
-
Design and build test fixtures in support of mechanical design and process experimentation

Develop fabrication plans for physical prototypes including sourcing of components and fabrication of custom parts

Prepare technical reports and design specification documents for use internally and for working with external suppliers

What You’ll Bring

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field

A minimum of ten years of experience in development of mechanical prototypes and commercial products, particularly heating and cooling equipment

Ability to work onsite at Greentown Labs, Somerville, MA for 3-5 days per week
-
Expertise in fabrication and assembly (machining, molding, fasteners, piping, wiring)

Expertise at designing, building, and operating test apparatuses for experimental work
-
Experience with SOLIDWORKS or other 3D CAD software

Experience with FEA/CFD software such as Ansys, COMSOL, Abaqus, Fluent, etc. is a plus
-
Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis
