We’re looking for an exceptional engineer with experience in thermochemical analysis/design and membrane and separation systems to lead the process design of our cooling technology. Through modeling, experimentation, and analysis, you will establish our system’s top level and subsystem specifications and operating conditions and support its mechanical design. You will also conduct sensitivity studies to define our system’s optimal performance characteristics and cost metrics.

What You’ll Do

  • Build computational models of the thermochemical cycle to determine thermodynamic state points as well as projected heat and mass transport for different versions of the technology

  • Design and build component, subsystem, and system level experiments to validate the technology, understand its performance, and recommend improvements

  • Establish system, subsystem, and critical assembly specifications

  • Support the mechanical design team’s efforts to relate physical design parameter decisions to process design variables and performance and to test/troubleshoot/optimize the system

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in membrane systems, electrolyte chemistry, thermodynamic cycle development, and/or efficient heating and cooling systems

  • Ability to work onsite at Greentown Labs, Somerville, MA for 3-5 days per week

  • Expertise in liquid desiccants or electrolyte chemistry

  • Expertise in separation or desalination systems, particularly membrane-based systems

  • Experience in modeling novel thermochemical systems and cycles

  • Experience with MATLAB, Aspen, OLI Chemistry, or other chemical process simulator software

  • Hands-on lab experience with desiccant or similar systems

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis
